Remember Prey 2? That beautiful E3 trailer that showed us a game that looked nothing like the original, and was giving off a wonderful Blade Runner vibe? Well, Bethesda confirmed yesterday that they have officially stopped work on the project. Bethesda vice president Pete Hines said this about the project: It wasn't up to our quality standard and we decided to cancel it. It's no longer in development. That wasn't an easy decision, but it's one that won't surprise many folks given that we hadn't been talking about it. It's unfortunate news to be sure. The original Prey was one of the earlier titles released on the Xbox 360. Though it had high expectations, the game released to mediocre reviews, and left fans expecting more. Prey 2 looked to change all that, with a new main character, new setting, and new story arc. Too bad we'll never see what Bethesda originally had planned for the franchise. Check out the original E3 2011 trailer below. -- Source --

Earlier this year, YouTube announced plans to make their video service support 60FPS (you may recall our coverage of the announcement). Well, it seems that they are finally making good on their promise. As of today, Youtube officially supports 60FPS video. Kotaku reports that Google Chrome is required for watching videos at 60FPS. You'll also have to make sure you have the quality settings of the video set correctly, and of cource, a fast enough internet connection to handle the stream. This is really going to make video game footage look spectacular. Some folks have already began posting 60FPS video capture to the updated service. Check out some examples below. -- Source --
EA has made two announcements regarding the new Star Wars: Battlefront game. The first is that the new Star Wars: Battlefront will launch during the holiday 2015 season. The second announcement? Star Wars: Battlefront is going to be a first-person shooter.
The new Battlefront has garnered a lot of attention as of late. The title was shown at E3 this past year, and just a few days ago, some extremely early footage of a cancelled Battlefront III emerged online. We have known for a while that long time Battlefield developer, DICE, has been working on the new Battlefront, so, when EA announced that it would be a first-person shooter, didn't come as too much of a shock. -- Source #1 -- -- Source #2 -- Respawn, the creators of Titanfall, announced yesterday that they will be revealing a new update for the game today at 10:00 AM PDT (1:00 PM EST) via Twitch. The message came via Twitter last night around 7:30. Titanfall has already had three different DLC packages, each including new maps. Their DLC has traditionally held a price tag of $10. They also sold a season pass for $25, which saves you a bit of cash. Respawn has also continued to support the game with free non-map updates that have included bug fixes, and new game modes.
Even though Titanfall is a multiplayer only title, it is still played by thousands on the Xbox One, Xbox 360, and PC. You can head on over to their Twitch stream by clicking the link in the twitter post above, or by clicking here. -- Source -- Just a month after it's original release, Warner Brothers Interactive has given us some free DLC for their newest title, Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor. "The Power of Shadow Bundle", releasing today, will allow players to take control of the Black Hand, a servant of Sauron. The Black Hand appears in the regular game as an enemy, but now you can see the world through his eyes. According to Gamespot, the Black Hand has three new Epic Runes. The One with Nature Rune makes you immune to poison attacks from Ukuk Captains or Ghuls. Earlier this month, another patch was released for Shadow of Mordor adding a photo mode that allowed users to take screenshots of the game, much like The Last of Us: Remastered.
You can pick up Shadow of Mordor today for Xbox One, PS4, and PC, and the game is scheduled to release for Xbox 360 and PS3 on November 18th. -- Source -- With just over two weeks before the game's official release, Activision has released the launch trailer for Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare. The Nexus will retail at $99. We can safely assume that the device will have access to the Google Play Store, and for those interested in gaming, you can purchase a controller for an extra $39. We're not sure how well it'll compete with other consoles out there, but you can get a pretty good idea of it's gaming capability from checking out the specs below. It's pretty simple. If you buy the digital version of the game for Xbox 360 you'll also get a code that will let you download the game for free on the Xbox One. Same goes for the PS3 and PS4. This deal will also apply for any DLC you purchase for the game, and it looks like your stats will transfer as well.
According to Kotaku, Activision will stop giving out codes in March 2015, and it appears that this deal will only apply to the digital versions of the games. -- Source -- The classic PC adventure game "Myst" is making it's way to television. Polygon reports that Legendary Entertainment will be working w_ith the game's creators, Cyan, to "not just to create a compelling TV drama but to develop a true transmedia product that will include a companion video game that extends the story across both media... Seventy percent of tablet owners use their device while watching TV at least several times a week. Cyan sees the potential to push the boundaries of interactive storytelling to a new level."
My guess? They are planning for people to download a companion app and participate in the story in some way. It will be interesting to see how it will all play out in the end. Cyan is also working on a spiritual successor to Myst, Obduction, which was successfully funded by Kickstarter in 2013. -- Source -- Assassins Creed: Unity Will Run at 900p/30fps On Both PS4, Xbox One. Gamers Aren't Pleased.10/7/2014 Yesterday, Ubisoft released the following statement regarding Assassins Creed: Unity on consoles: We decided to lock them at the same specs to avoid all the debates and stuff, Well, it seems they have failed spectacularly at that. Instead of the PS4/Xbox One elitists yelling at eachother, they are all yelling at Ubisoft. #PS4NoParity has become a new hashtag on twitter, and is being used to get the word out that people are not happy that Ubisoft is, essentially, holding the PS4 version back so the Xbox One owners don't feel left out. The backlash on twitter became so bad that Ubisoft released a second clarifier statement. We understand how Senior Producer Vincent Pontbriand's quotes have been misinterpreted. To set the record straight, we did not lower the specs for Assassin's Creed Unity to account for any one system over the other. Even though Ubisoft stated that they didn't lower the specs of the PS4 version, they failed to specify if they intentionally limited that version. What I find most surprising? I haven't seen a whole lot of "PC Master Race" folks enter the fray yet.
What do you think of their decision? -- Source -- |
