Engadget has reported that Microsoft has confirmed that they are buying Mojang, and it's game, Minecraft for a cool $2.5 Billion. Microsoft tells us that we shouldn't panic, as they are going to continue making it for all the platforms it is currently available on, and won't be making it Microsoft exclusive.

I'll keep you updated as events unfold. Last week, rumors surfaced stating Microsoft would soon perform a round of layoffs. CNN confirms that the rumors are true. Microsoft will be cutting 18,000 jobs (roughly 14% of the company's employees) in the next year. The report says that most of the layoffs will come from "Nokia's devices and services business". You may recall Microsoft's recent purchase of Nokia. It is common that layoffs occur after a purchase like this one. This is, by far, the largest round of layoffs in Microsoft's history. The previous record was in 2009, when they fired 5,000 employees.
