Many a game has gotten its start on Kickstarter since it began in 2009. Games like FTL, Organ Trail, Shadowrun Online, and many more have gotten their start on the crowdfunding site. Today, Kickstarter launched a site listing all of the games that were Kickstarted, using their site, and are now available on Steam.
And it just so happens, the Steam Summer Sale is this week. Go nuts. Source

Early access games are indeed a double edged sword. I believe they are a good thing, but we haven't quite perfected the system yet. Early access games let the developers get advice and feedback about the game so that they can see what their clients want, and make the appropriate changes before the game is released. Charging money for an early version may seem greedy, but a lot of these indie developers are small groups of 1-10 people, who need all of the funding they can get their hands on. I personally wouldn't throw money at an early access title unless I see some great potential in the game, and I feel confident that my feedback would be listened to. Leave a Reply. |
