By the title you would assume that NHL 15 is the 15th hockey game in the series of EA hockey games. Well, you would be wrong. NHL 15 is in fact the 23rd game from EA. Since this is only a demo there are a few things that need work (textures on hair and jerseys looked a bit odd sometimes). Also, since this only a demo of the game not all of the features are in the game so don’t expect a whole lot. Included in the demo is a practice mod so you can practice your shot.
After selecting your team (only LA and NY are available) you are then greeted by Mike "Doc" Emrick and Eddie Olczyk…like actual footage of the two. Then the game starts. NHL 15 plays like previous NHL games.
If you aren’t familiar with the series then let me give you a quick rundown. Basically, a few years back (NHL 08 I think) they changed the control options. Move with the right stick, shoot with the left, and pass with the right trigger. It’s very intuitive and I’ve loved this control setup since. NHL 15 also looks absolutely gorgeous! Player details are equally impressive. The fabric on the jerseys moves realistically, you can see the players sweating, and the crowd reacts and looks real. Being that this is still a demo there are a few small bugs I noticed. If you get into a fight and knock a players helmet off the textures of the hair are super flat and shiny. Also, there were a couple times when the jerseys looked out of focus. That being said, this is just a demo so I don’t expect it to be perfect.
When a new NHL game is released there is always a list of updates to the game. This year boasts everything from improved puck physics, highly detailed areas, and a partnership with NBC for some very realistic looking TV presentation. The demo is available now for download on PS4 and Xbox One. The full version of NHL 15 drops September 9th. Oh and Go Wings!
