-- Source -- Sony's game streaming service will begin open beta today for the US and parts of Canada. During the current beta for the PS4, Sony is has, and still is receiving a good deal of criticism for their odd choice of pricing. According to Joystiq, "Sony reiterated it's still in the early days of the program and is listening to feedback, along with 'working towards a PS Now subscription option.'"
Well, that's good news! Here's hoping Sony listens to their fan base, and makes a decent subscription plan for us all. -- Source -- Yesterday, via the Playstation Blog, Sony announced that Minecraft would release on the PS4 today. The game is available on the Playstation Store for $19.99. If you already own the game on PS3, all of your save games will happily transfer over. This Metroid-Vania inspired, hand drawn, 2D hack-and-slash instantly captured the hearts of anyone that had the good fortune of seeing it in action. It was so good in fact, that Dean won the $40,000 grand prize in Microsoft's Dream-Build-Play competition. Dust has already been released on Xbox Live, and on PC. In the coming months, however, PS4 owners will get their hands on the title as well. Fidget, one of the game's primary characters, described the release this way: "Imagine a 2D side-scrolling platformer, with crazy-fast swordplay and screen-clearing MAGIC supplied by yours truly. There are power-ups! Special abilities! Hidden passages! A whole world of STUFF to find! Now, if you can, imagine all this awesomeness is hand-drawn like an old animated movie from the 80s and 90s, but with art at crazy high resomolutions! Like, 1080p! People tell me that's pretty darn good! Also, 60fps. I'm guessing that's some sort of speed? Like, the speed of awesome? I don't know much about these things, though. I mean, look at my hands! I'm not plugging anything into expensive TVs with these ham-hocks." An official release date is yet to be known. Check out the original launch trailer and some screens below! -- Source -- It's a good day for PS3/Vita owners. Sony is putting up a number of titles for the PS3 and Vita for $10 each this weekend only. Selections include Darksiders 2, Metro: Last Light, Bioshock Infinite, and more.
Head on over and check it out for yourself. -- Flash Sale -- Matchmaking woes have been plaguing The Last of Us: Remastered. Players have been complaining about long wait times in the lobbies since launch. Naughty dog has been working on a fix, and just to be extra nice, they have given us two multiplayer maps for both the PS3 and PS4 versions of the game for free as a peace offering. Here is their official statement to their fans. At the end of July, we teased some new multiplayer add-on content which included a glimpse at new maps for Factions. We're glad to say that we've decided to release these two maps for free on both the PS3 and PS4 in appreciation for all of your continued patience as we work to resolve the matchmaking issues. Aren't they awesome?
-- Source -- I'm not usually one for horror games, but when an Playstation announced a new title for the PS4, cryptically named P. T., and told us that there is an "interactive teaser" for said game available for free on PSN, I figured I'd give it a go. When I got home from work yesterday, I sat down in front of my TV and gave it a go.
The next two hours were the most frightening and unsettling hours I had experienced in years. **Minor Spoilers Ahead** The game places you in a hallway, and leaves you to figure out what to do next. The door at the end of the hallway only brings you back to the door you entered in the first place. Figuring out what to focus on in the room triggers the next sequence when you walk through the door at the other side. As you play through the teaser, the dimply lit hallway, the sounds from the old, broken down radio, and the horrifying ambient noises keep you on edge at all times. There is a warning at the beginning of the teaser that reads, "Avoid playing if you have a heart condition." All I can say is, this is probably good advice. Now, I must admit, I'm weak willed. I didn't actually get to the very end. Not because I was too frightened, or because I just couldn't take it anymore, but because I figured the teaser was supposed to take the player about 30-45 minutes to figure out, and I was going on 2½ - 3 hours. I'm not that good at figuring out obscure puzzles in games, and because I was stuck for so long at different places in the teaser, it was starting to lose its effect. Well, I Googled the ending and, as it turns out, it is very rewarding for those who press on through the experience. I've provided a link below to an article detailing the ending. All I can say is, well played Sony, well played. -- Click here for ending reveal -- |
